Eleven people, including a child, have died due to gas leaks in a chemical unit in RR Venkatapuram village in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Also about 1000 people have been admitted to King George Hospital for treatment. These people complained of trouble breathing and eye irritation. It is reported that the chemical factory used to have work related to polymers.

In such a situation, there is a possibility of poisoning of gas. The gas leak occurred at 3:30 am on Thursday. One person died of a fall while running away from the factory. The work of evacuating people is still going on. The plant was closed for several days due to the lockdown.

After this incident there was a stir among the people in the village. According to reports, more than one thousand people have been ill in the 3 km radius of the factory. According to eyewitnesses, they saw many people falling on the ground. Police say the gas leak was called off. The NDRF team immediately reached the spot. The effect of this gas leak was more than 1-1.5 km.

But the smell of gas was felt 2–2.5 km. Visakhapatnam Commissioner RK Meena said that every house is being looked at to check the people affected by the gas leak. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called a meeting with the National Disaster Management (NDMA) Authority in view of the gas leak incident in Visakhapatnam. The PM said that he is watching this incident. They are constantly in talks with officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs and NDMA. The PM has also talked to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy in this regard.
