According to a legend, in one city there was a majestic king named Muchukand. He had a daughter named Chandrabhaga. The king married his daughter to King Chandrasen's son Shobhan. Shobhan could not live without eating for a time. Once Shobhan came to his in-laws’ house with his wife in the month of Kartik month, then Rama Ekadashi fasted. In the home state of Chandrabhaga, all Rama fasted on Ekadashi, and Shobhan was asked to do the same.

Shobhan gets upset about how he cannot fast for a single moment, so how will he fast for Rama Ekadashi. He went to his wife with the same trouble and asked for a solution. Chandrabhaga said that if this is the case then you have to go outside the state. Because there is no person in the state who does not follow this fasting rule. Even the fauna of the state does not eat on this day.

Eventually Shobhan had to fast for Rama Ekadashi, but he died before Paran. Chandrabhaga did not sati herself with her husband and started living with the father. On the other hand, by virtue of Ekadashi fast, Shobhan got a luxurious state in the next birth on Mount Mandaranchal. Once the Brahmins of Muchukundpur reached the divine city of Shobhan while doing pilgrimage. He recognized Shobhan as sitting on the throne. Seeing the Brahmins, Shobhan rose from the throne and asked how it all happened. After returning from the pilgrimage, the Brahmins revealed this to Chandrabhaga. Chandrabhaga was very happy and was distraught to go to her husband. She reached the ashram of the left sage. Chandrabhaga reached her husband Shobhan on the Mandaranchal mountain.

Giving the fruits of the virtue of his Ekadashi fasting to Shobhan, he stabilized his throne and kingdom for a long time. Since then, it is believed that the person who observes this fast gets free from sins like Brahmana and all his wishes are fulfilled.
