*MLA Prashar, MC Chief inaugurate static compactors to remove decades old open dump sites.

Ludhiana, February 19 (Inderjit) - Open dumping of garbage would soon be a thing of the past with Ludhiana Central MLA Ashok Prashar Pappi and Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Sandeep Rishi inaugurating static compactors site worth around Rs 2 crore near Cheema chowk on Monday.
The static compactors will prove beneficial for removing the decades old open dump sites in Cheema Chowk, Mushtaq Ganj, Industrial area-A among others areas of Ludhiana Central constituency.
MLA Prashar and MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi said that the static compactors are being installed under smart city mission. In total, the compactors are being installed at 22 locations across the city at a cost of around Rs 33.50 crore (including civil and mechanical cost).
MLA Prashar said that in Ludhiana Central constituency, the static compactors are being installed at six locations. Apart from Cheema chowk, these are being installed in Field Ganj, Partap Chowk, Khwaja Kothi chowk, Daresi (near Cremation ground) and backside civil hospital.
The legislator said that currently, the garbage collected from houses is dumped in the open at the secondary dumping sites situated in different parts of the city. The garbage is then shifted to the main dump site of the MC on Tajpur road. The open secondary dump sites have been putting a blot on the face of the city and the residents have also been facing problems due to foul smell emanating out of the garbage dumps.
He further stated that after the installation of compactors across the city, the open secondary dump sites would be eliminated and garbage will directly be dumped inside the compactors. No foul smell would emanate and it would provide a major relief to the residents.
MLA Prashar said that after inauguration of Cheema chowk static compactor site, the garbage collected from houses, shops etc in ward number 52, 53, 55, 20 would be dumped in the compactors installed at Cheema chowk site. So, the open dump sites in these wards would be removed.
Similarly, the open dump sites in other areas of Ludhiana central constituency would also be removed after the inauguration of remaining five static compactor sites in the coming days, added MLA Prashar.
MLA Prashar said that Punjab Chief Minister S Bhagwant Singh Mann led state government is fulfilling its promises made to the people of the state and quality infrastructure is being established across the state. He said that the project to install compactors was also hanging fire for a long time, but the compactors are now being installed due to our efforts and the support of the state government.
Nirmal Virk, Nek Chand, Gurpreet Singh Raju Baba, Vijay Singh, Kapil Sidhu, Sukhjeet Azad, Davinder Sharma Bitta, Sunny Sood, Sandeep Sasodiya among others were also present during the inauguration ceremony.
