LIGHTING A CANDLE : A Psychological Perspective*.

*

PM Narendra Modi has appealed citizens to switch off electric lights at 9 pm on 05th April for nine minutes, and light candles or diyas, or flash torchlights or mobile lights standing at their doorsteps or balconies.

Many people have different opinions on it .We all are led by our own mind programming/ belief systems. No one is right or wrong here.

I tried to see it from the point of psychological benefits. Even if we do not want to get into stars, energy and vibrational science, it still makes psychological sense in my understanding. Here's how:-

-It gives us the sense of belonging when we do things together. It makes us feel supported ( I am not alone here)

-Something to look forward to, to do together when we are socially isolated. Human beings are hardwired to connect. It's an indirect way of showing connection.

-It will make most of us anticipate and be intrigued about how will it turn out to be. This anticipation has a potential to kill boredom. We all are waiting to watch it on TV/social media how it will look as a panoramic view.

-It has the potential to create a placebo effect in the minds of believers and change their biochemistry  which actually may strengthen their immune system in a small way. Placebos are powerful and we all know it.

-Gratitude is one of the most trusted practice by positive psychology. When we create the feeling of gratitude and togetherness, our Neuro-chemistry changes and makes us feel positive. If we practice gratitude by heart during this "diya" time, we will be doing a favour to ourselves.

-It will create a sense of solidarity which is most needed in the present situation.

Light the light of positivity in your heart. Stay safe ..stay home ..stay connected!
